Lagos - Police have restored order in the southern Nigerian port of Onne after a day of rioting.
On Friday, street gang members blocked roads and clashed with police in Onne, a town on the outskirts of the oil city of Port Harcourt.
The rioting followed a shooting on Thursday.
Rivers state information commissioner Magnus Abe said the situation was now under police control, and people "are going to their normal business".
Abe explained: "A policeman shot a youth leader in the leg and the youths reacted. Some leaders in the area put their heads together, with the active support of the government, and calm returned".
Witnesses had reported that all movement in and out of the port had been stopped during the fighting.
